Sultan honors civilians of Qatar's Emir

Dubai: Oman and Qatar signed agreements on military cooperation, taxation, tourism, ports, labor and investment on Monday.

Since Sultan Haytham bin Tariq Said came to power nearly two years ago after the death of his predecessor Sultan Qaboos, Oman has been implementing extensive reforms and austerity measures, which ruled for half a century.

These agreements were signed during the two-day state visit of Sultan Haytham to Doha.

Sultan Haytham awarded Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani the Oman First Class Civil Medal.

The medal is one of Oman's highest honors and is awarded to the king and head of state of countries that have outstanding relations with Oman. It was also awarded to those distinguished guests who enjoyed the high respect of Sudan.

Emir Diwan, the administrative office of the Emir of Qatar, stated that these transactions include a double taxation and tax evasion agreement on income tax and capital tax, and an investment cooperation agreement between the Qatar Investment Authority and the Oman Investment Authority sovereign wealth fund.

More details about the transaction could not be obtained immediately.

Oman recently launched a medium-term plan to address the financial situation hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.
